FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?
Before COVID-19, tribes gathered once per month for approximately two hours at a tribe member’s home or at another convenient location (e.g. JCC, public library, park, etc.) Optional community events and optional at-home activities were also provided, for those looking to engage more frequently.
WHEN DOES THE TRIBE MEET?
During COVID-19, The Tribe is not gathering. From 2018-2020, The Tribe met one Sunday per month, from October until June.
WHAT ARE SOME EXAMPLES OF WHAT WE MIGHT DO AT A GATHERING OR AN OUTING?
Tribe Gatherings: Parent-child games, Jewish seasonal craft projects, seasonal snacks, participating in an activity that highlights a Jewish value together, adult learning, and talking about how our families have explored (or might explore) this value on our own, etc.
Optional Outings: Visiting a food bank together, attending a JCC family concert or play, attending a Purim carnival together, volunteering during Good Deeds Day, etc.
Games: Obstacle courses, Red Light-Green Light, Bean Bag Toss, "Captain, May I?", The Button Game, Telephone, Guess the Goodies, etc. all modified with a uniquely Jewish twist.

Survey results from our initial cohort tell us that participating Tribe members are diverse and self-identify as: "Just Jewish," Not Jewish, Culturally Jewish/Secular/Humanist, Jewish By Birth, Reform, Conservative, Orthodox, interfaith, first-generation, Russian-speaking, Israeli American, Jews of Color, GLBTQ, single-parent, differently-abled/special needs, low-income, middle-income, and affluent. The Tribe welcomes the participation of self-identifying Jewish families of all backgrounds, sexual orientations, and gender identities.
IS THE GOAL OF THE TRIBE TO MAKE OUR FAMILY MORE RELIGIOUSLY OBSERVANT?
No. The goal is for you to spend more quality time with your child, while exploring what Jewish values mean to your family, together. Members of each tribe participate in selecting the activities they will host. Each family can opt in and opt out of programming, as they choose. You do you.
WHY IS EACH TRIBE LIMITED TO 10 FAMILIES?
Tribes are limited to keep the size of group gatherings manageable for 5-9 year olds, and to seek to facilitate deeper connections between participants.
